BY ROBERT KIPLAGAT

Eldoret Municipal Council has received a modern ambulance worth Sh 30 million from the city of Minneapolis.

Speaking yesterday during its presentation at 64 Stadium, Town Clerk Stanislas Ondimu said the ambulance is the second from Minneapolis after a recent donation of a fire engine.

“This ambulance will help residents within Eldoret Municipality and the entire North Rift region in emergencies,” said Ondimu.

He said the city of Minneapolis would train firemen and mechanics how to operate the ambulance.

Eldoret Mayor William Rono said the ambulance is one of its kind in the region and would improve disaster response.

He said a ten-year partnership with Minneapolis has helped the council become more effective in  dealing with disasters within the municipality.

North Rift regional PC Wanyama Musiambo said Eldoret town was one of the fastest growing towns with a population of about 500,000 people and it requires more facilities to supplement its growth.
